374 Marine Protected Areas protect 38% of UK waters, all subject to planning and licensing regimes to ensure their protection. I'm proud the UK is a global leader in protecting our seas and oceans. At COP15, we were amongst almost 200 countries who agreed a global commitment to protect 30% of land and oceans by 2030. Last year, the UK also signed the UN's High Seas Treaty to place 30% of the seas into protected areas by 2030 – which I'll keep supporting!
