Alnmouth beach will be popular as we enter the summer, but this weekend it plays host to an inspiring awareness event, organised by two local constituents in memory of their son Jasper and all those who have sadly experienced such profound loss.
Saturday 1st July – 9:30am – midday – Alnmouth Beach, Baby loss awareness and reflection event, in collaboration with renowned sand artist Soul2Sand, in aid of the 4Louis charity.
I commend their incredible work promoting awareness of the tragic issue of baby loss and want to assure you the Government and I are working on this important issue too:
- The UK is one of the safest places in the world to give birth and the neonatal mortality rate for babies born over the 24-week gestational age of viability has reduced by 36% since 2010, but there is still more to be done
- The Department of Health and Social Care has set out measures to halve rates of stillbirths, neonatal deaths and brain injuries that occur during or soon after labour, and maternal deaths, by 2025, relative to 2010
- Made commitments related to baby loss and maternity care in the Women's Health Strategy in 2022
- Introduced the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle and the Brain Injury Reduction Programme
- Increasing the 30,000 women able to access specialist perinatal mental healthcare by an additional 24,000 by 2023
