Further to my post in February, I am so pleased to see that Northumberland County Council has listened to the local concerns that I raised with them about Scremerston First School, and today published a recommendation that Scremerston NOT be closed!
Instead, it will be extended to an age 4-11 primary, which is great news for local parents and school staff, who were understandably concerned at the previous suggestion.
Changes to our local schools are part of a wider Northumberland County Council pledge of almost £40m of investment in schools in the Berwick Partnership as part of a county-wide capital programme, including a new building for Berwick Academy, as well as increased specialist, post-16 skills and post-18 provision.
Today’s report by Cabinet Member for Children’s Services Cllr Guy Renner-Thompson is yet to be presented to the Council’s Family and Children's Services Scrutiny Committee and the Cabinet for a decision, following which ‘Statutory Proposals’ would be published that I would strongly encourage you to share your views on, during the four-week consultation in due course.
In the meantime, you can view the rest of the announcement for our area's schools in more detail, at: bit.ly/41E2fwr
