Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed, recently visited Ellington Primary School in her constituency, where she was delighted to congratulate pupils on their success in the Key Stage 2 exams. She was given a tour of the school by Headteacher Kevin Vardy, under whose leadership the school has gone from being a First school to a Primary school. She met the newly formed School Council and discussed their roles and responsibilities.
Anne-Marie enjoyed her discussions with the Year 5 & 6 class, who have recently been working on a project on the decommissioning of landmines following war. Anne-Marie said “The children have clearly been thinking hard about this issue, and they sent me home with a package of letters from each of them setting out their own specific concerns and with some excellent proposed solutions. They have tasked me with discovering exactly what our Government and others are doing and I will be reporting back to them on this and working to help them lobby to solve this vital global travesty.”
