Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed, joined 139 of her colleagues from all sides of the Commons, in presenting a petition on behalf of Women’s State Pension campaign group WASPI.
The MP, who has been heavily involved in the Northumberland WASPI group, formally presented the petition signed by 647 residents during yesterday evening’s session of Parliament. Mrs Trevelyan also presented a petition on behalf of people living in the Hexham constituency represented by neighbouring MP Guy Opperman, who is a Government Whip and therefore unable to present petitions.
The Northumberland WASPI group joined others from across the country in travelling to Birmingham for the Conservative Party Conference last week, where they presented Mrs Trevelyan with the petition.
Anne-Marie said: “Northumberland WASPI did a tremendous job in organising so many signatures, which they handed to me in Birmingham last week. It was an honour to be able to present their petition in the Chamber yesterday, along with a large number of colleagues. It clearly showed how much support there is for a solution that lessens the impact of the changes. I will continue to work with WASPI to support them in any way I can.”
