Anne-Marie Trevelyan, and her constituency staff, are to train to become ‘Dementia Friends’ at a training event open to everyone, in Alnwick on Friday.
Dementia Friends is an initiative organised by the Alzheimer’s Society, and aims to transform the way the nation thinks, talks and acts about the condition. Dementia touches the lives of millions of people across the UK. Dementia Friends was launched to tackle the stigma and lack of understanding that means many people with the condition experience loneliness and social exclusion.
Anne-Marie said: ‘The Prime Minister has committed to the UK becoming a world leader into dementia research by 2020, but it is also important that as many people as possible become Dementia Friends, so we can understand what sufferers and their families go through. I would encourage as many people as possible to sign up, and perhaps join me and my team on Friday.”
The awareness session will take place on Friday 27th November, 5pm at St James’ Centre, Pottergate, Alnwick.
