Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Berwick-upon-Tweed has said that, if elected, she will push for the creation of a Government Minister, dedicated to addressing issues affecting the over 65's.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan said; "I intend to lobby David Cameron, and support the calls made by Age UK and others, for the creation of a Minister for the over 65's, early in the new parliament. There are significant issues in relation to health, social care and housing for the older generation and I fear, as a country, we are under-prepared for the impact of the rapid increase we are seeing in this age group as people are living longer".
She added; "it is a role which needs to be able to cross departmental silos to maximise outcomes for our rapidly ageing population and it is vital the Government is committed to joined up thinking for this growing sector of our society."
