Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Berwick-upon-Tweed, has moved to seek reassurance for staff at Berwick Library after they received P45s in the post and it was revealed that the service is being transferred to Active Northumberland.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan contacted Corporate Resources at Northumberland County Council, after being approached by a worried member of staff, to clarify the situation. Anne-Marie Trevelyan said; "It is totally unacceptable for anyone to get the shock of receiving their P45 in the post, without warning. I was contacted by a member of the team from Berwick and sought clarity of the situation. Apparently employees received P45s automatically from Employee Services as they are transferring from NCC payroll to Active Northumberland payroll. Letters were sent to all staff last Monday explaining that the P45 would be received as part of the transfer. Unfortunately the P45 was received before the letter explaining the progress of the transfer. The Service Manager has told me that he has now spoken to, and apologised, to the teams for this unfortunate timing".
Anne-Marie Trevelyan has also sought confirmation that once the staff at Berwick Library are under Active Northumberland's management, their jobs will remain secure; "I have been told that whilst there are no cast iron guarantees, the administration are committed to protecting front line services as far as possible, I look forward to holding them to this and the continued provision of library services in Berwick and job security for its excellent staff".
