I adore Seahouses! This vibrant fishing village boasts a bustling harbour, a variety of shops, and some of the tastiest fish and chips in Northumberland. One of the main attractions of Seahouses is the chance to embark on a boat trip to the Farne Islands, where you can spot puffins in the spring and summer, as well as grey seal colonies and other fascinating wildlife throughout the year. You can easily book a trip in advance with boat companies like Billy Shiel or Serenity boat trips, or simply head to the harbour and book your excursion from one of the huts there.
Seahouses also serves as an ideal base for exploring Northumberland's coastline. As you roam through this bustling village, you'll catch a glimpse of Bamburgh Castle in the distance, as well as stunning views of Holy Island and Lindisfarne Castle further out. You may walk along the beaches with your newly purchased fishing nets, buckets, and spades, or even be brave enough to go for a dip in the sea, but you won't find me in there as it's far too cold!
In addition to its breathtaking wildlife and coastline, Seahouses also boasts a rich history, particularly surrounding the legendary RNLI figure Grace Darling. She and her father famously rescued many individuals after the Forfarshire fishing boat crashed into rocks, and you can still see her legacy today at the RNLI lifeboat in Seahouses named in her honour.
Seahouses is also famous for its fishing heritage, with Swallow Fish continuing to smoke fish on site since 1843. Visitors are welcome to check out the Fisherman's Kitchen, which displays historic fishing memorabilia and curios alongside the day's fresh catch.
After a busy day of exploration, you can unwind with a pint and some delicious fish and chips at a local restaurant, all while admiring the breathtaking view of Bamburgh Castle from the Bamburgh Castle Inn. Whether you're interested in crazy golf, admiring Holy Island from afar, or exploring the pristine coastline, there is always something new to experience in Seahouses. Do go and visit!
