This week my department BEIS (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) together with Ofcom announced the shortlisted projects to receive over £300million in funding for energy infrastructure projects.
I am delighted to say that £53million of that funding has been awarded to Northern Powergrid, who submitted a wide-ranging bid with the support of local authorities, businesses and Local Enterprise Partnerships across the north east and Yorkshire. Of that funding pot, several projects in Northumberland are included which will boost network infrastructure and increase the potential for more green jobs in our county. This includes possible electric vehicle charging points along the A1 at Berwick, Belford and Alnwick.
I also visited JCB this week to see for myself their new hydrogen-powered construction vehicles. You can read more about them HERE.
