Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed, recently paid a visit to Purdy Lodge in her constituency. The Lodge is a well-known family-run hotel on the A1 between Berwick and Alnwick.
The hotel has recently been upgraded by owners Jim and Jacqui Davidson. Anne-Marie had been keen to inspect the upgrades to the hotel and service station and discuss how the major forthcoming works to dual the A1 might affect business for Purdy Lodge.
Anne-Marie said: “It was great to meet Jim and Jackie and to understand how their business works and the impact any A1 roadworks might have on the business. Purdy Lodge is a North Northumberland institution, known by many local motorists and tourists over the years as a welcomed stop over when travelling between Edinburgh and London. The service station also has provided local rural residents with the basic commodities they need.”
“The dualling of the A1 will cause some disruption but I know the Highways England team will be working hard to minimise that. Anyone worried about disruption caused by the A1 improvement works can contact me for more information.”
