Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick-upon Tweed, has recently been updated on the progress on the A1 in Northumberland scheme which she has worked for since 2010.
A consultation has been held on the works between Morpeth to Felton, and the outcome is currently being summarised in a report. Over 70% of the responses received were supportive of the scheme and state that it is overdue. Most of the surveys have been completed for the Alnwick to Ellingham stretch of the works and consultations have also been carried out. Safety improvements have also been carreid out as five junctions north of Ellingham, at Adderstone Mains, Fenham le Moor, Outchester, Old Mousen and Newstead.
Anne-Marie said: “It was great to have an update from the team on the progress of the scheme. Since I secured the £290million funding from Government, the team has been working away to ensure we get the best deal for local road users and to ensure safety.”
The MP is also making sure Ministers know of the importance of her campaign to dual the A1 right to the Scottish border: “Whilst this scheme is hugely important to residents and the local economy, the long-term goal is to have the A1 dualled to Berwick and beyond!”
