Rt Hon Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed, joined Hexham MP Guy Opperman, Northumberland Council Leader Glen Sanderson, Forestry Commission Chair Sir William Worsley and local school children to launch the Great Northumberland Forest project.
Northumberland - which already has 20% tree coverage compared to the England average of 10% - is leading the way in tree planting, a subject the Northumberland MP is very passionate about.
"Trees are an incredible natural and sustainable resource. They provide vital habitats, give us oxygen, store carbon, stabilise the soil and give life to the world's wildlife. I am thrilled Northumberland is once again leading the national tree planting effort."
The Great Northumberland Forest project is not one single forest, but a plan to plant millions of new trees across the county. You can read more about the project and how you can get involved HERE.
