Rt Hon Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed is supporting calls for Lucy Bronze, a key member of England’s victorious UEFA squad, to receive the Freedom of Northumberland.
The England right back was born in Berwick and played for Alnwick Town A.F.C. as a youngster, leading to the suggestion by County Councillor Guy Renner-Thompson (representing the Bamburgh division) that she be awarded the county honour.
Speaking after the Lionesses historic victory, Anne-Marie said: “We are all so proud of the Lionesses and what they have achieved, but especially Northumberland girl Lucy Bronze. Bestowing the Freedom of Northumberland upon her would be a fitting way to pay special tribute to her incredible success as part of the victorious England team. I would encourage councillors to support this motion.”
The motion will be voted on by councillors at full council next month.
