Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed, lent her support to the Anti-Bullying Week campaign led by the Anti-Bullying Alliance.
Speaking at an event to raise awareness, held in the Speaker’s House in Parliament, Mrs Trevelyan said: “ It is really important to me to help promote this campaign against bullying, which especially affects child and young people.
"Bullying can only thrive in a culture of fear and secrecy – it is so important that children especially, are given the courage to speak out and to know they are not alone and to have a safe space in which they can speak out about what is happening to them or someone else.”
The event at Speaker's House was attended by young people, schools and voluntary organisations. A panel of experts spoke at the event including Edward Timpson MP - Minister of State for Children and Families at the Department for Education.
It was an opportunity to find out how bullying impacts on mental health and for MPs to show their commitment to tackling all forms of bullying – a priority shared across all political parties.
