Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the Founder and Director of the "Dual the A1 Campaign" and the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Berwick-upon-Tweed, has expressed her anger at a campaign banner, signed by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, being defaced on the first night it was displayed in Alnwick.
Boris Johnson, had came up to the Berwick constituency on Friday to add his voice to the campaign and had signed the banner, pledging his support, at the side of the A1. Anne-Marie Trevelyan, who founded the campaign eight years ago said; "It is extremely disappointing that someone or a group of individuals decided to trespass on to our office grounds and deface our private property especially after the recent success in securing £290 million pounds for, the long fought for, improvements to the road and as the campaign continues its efforts and drive to secure the ultimate goal of full dualling right up to the border. It was fantastic to have Boris up here, taking time out his busy schedule to support the campaign and this is a very frustrating end for the team after this very successful visit".
Anne-Marie Trevelyan added that she was, however, hopefully that the graffiti on the banner would be able to be removed.
The incident has been reported to the police.
