Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the newly elected Conservative MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed has expressed her delight at the appointment of her colleague, James Wharton as a government minister. James Wharton, who is the Conservative MP for Stockton South, will take up the post of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department of Communities and Local Government where he will have responsibility for the 'Northern Powerhouse' plans to boost the economy of the North of England.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan, whose victory in Berwick-upon-Tweed, gave the region its third Conservative MP, said; "I am delighted for James who I have known and worked alongside for a number of years now. I am sure he will do an excellent job at the DCLG and, it is also great news for the north east." Anne-Marie Trevelyan, who had both the Prime Minister, David Cameron and the Chancellor, George Osborne visit the Berwick constituency during the election campaign added; "previously the north has been seen as the forgotten part of the Country so it is fantastic to have a Prime Minister and Chancellor making such a demonstrable commitment to us and putting the creation of a northern powerhouse at the heart of the plans and aspirations for the new Conservative government".
David Cameron also chose the North East for his first official visit as the newly-elected Prime Minister last week.
