Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Berwick-upon-Tweed, has said that she will be personally raising the issue of the enforcement of tax evasion laws with the Chancellor, George Osborne following the HSBC scandal.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan, made the commitment after being contacted by angry residents and those campaigning for a crackdown on 'tax dodging' schemes. She said; "I am appalled by the revelations that tax evasion has been assisted for clients of HSBC bank outside UK borders . If that is the case, I hope that the HMRC will be investigating all these allegations and tracking down tax-evaders and will bring them to justice according to the law".
A trained accountant with twenty years practice experience, Anne-Marie Trevelyan added "I believe that all UK citizens should pay the tax they owe, using the laws of the land to make best use of their hard earned money. There has been a lot of changes during the last parliament to reduce avoidance, a legal activity, by tightening up the rules and I think this is a good thing. If the HMRC identified other areas where tax avoidance should be clamped down on then I hope that into the next parliament we will continue to improve tax collection theory and practice. I look forward to discussing these issues directly with George Osborne".
