Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed has paid tribute to the staff and volunteers of Citizens Advice for the work they do to help solve residents' problems.
Citizens Advice, is a UK-wide organisation which provides free confidential and impartial advice to people face to face, over the telephone and online.
At an event in parliament last week, attended with local Citizens advice volunteer and national trustee John Woodman, Anne-Marie Trevelyan met people from across the Citizens Advice service. She also heard and discussed with representatives the type of problems been raised by residents with the most common being queries about benefits, debt problems, employment and housing.
Citizens Advice Chief Executive Gillian Guy said:
“The right advice and support can transform lives. Local Citizens Advice solves the problems for two in three of our clients, and empowers people to develop the skills and confidence they need to help themselves.
“It is really important that people are able to access free and impartial advice as and when they need it, whether face to face, over the phone or online. We are pleased to work with MPs like Anne-Marie Trevelyan to help them solve their constituents’ problems and address local and national issues.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan said:
“Nationally the Citizens Advice service helps 2.5 million people a year with 6.2 million issues, they do a fantastic job in helping people solve their problems, and developing the skills and confidence people need to help themselves. I am keen to work closely with Citizens Advice to make sure people get access to the help they need.
“Volunteers are the bedrock of the Citizens Advice service. I would like to thank John Woodman and all the people in North Northumberland who give up their own time to help others and recognise their contribution to our local community.”
